Gorilla Science & Technology and EMC Deliver Tapeless Broadcast Modularized Solution

Companies Deliver Combined Solution to Large Chinese Broadcaster in Preparation for 2008 Summer Olympics

NAB 2007, Las Vegas, USA

Gorilla Science & Technology, a leading provider of advanced technologies for broadcasters, today announced the availability of its Tapeless Broadcast solution, combining Gorilla's advanced domain kernel technologies with industry-leading networked storage technologies from EMC, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions.

Gorilla's market-leading tapeless broadcasting solutions complement EMC's portfolio of market-leading networked storage solutions. The combined solution from Gorilla and EMC is designed to help broadcasters speed and simplify analog to digital conversion, while streamlining their broadcast content lifecycle ?from tape ingestion to editing, content management and broadcasting, content archiving, content repurposing, and multiplatform distribution and publishing.

As a result of this collaboration, the companies also announced that one of China's largest broadcasters, Shanghai Media Group (SMG), has chosen the combined Gorilla and EMC solution as SMG prepares to deliver the Chinese broadcast of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. SMG chose the Gorilla and EMC solution for newsroom automation and to help it manage the lifecycle of its broadcast and digital information assets.

"Without question, Gorilla and EMC are the global market leaders in broadcasting and information management solutions, and we have long viewed collaborating with them as a strategic goal of our business. We have fully deployed and are now using the solution to broadcast our programs to all of China. This gives our three companies real momentum for future business success," said Xu Jizhong, Director of Technical Center, Shanghai Media Group.

The combination of Gorilla's Automated Broadcasting Kernel Technologies with EMC's expertise in information management gives SMG the ability to produce and ingest various news contents once, then deliver digitized content customized to fit multiple channels. With 200 concurrent online users able to access, search, and retrieve the assets, the system is seamlessly integrated with SMG's news production system and is layered on a tiered content archive structure featuring asset visualization. Users now have the ability to search, locate, and retrieve news assets instantly through the Gorilla MAM/archive system, as opposed to manual tape search, which is both time consuming and less cost effective.

Gorilla's Tapeless Broadcast modularized solution seamlessly operates with EMC's award-wining CLARiiON family of networked storage systems and EMC Avalon policy-based data workflow software. It also leverages the market-leading digital asset management and archiving capabilities of EMC Documentum software to further offer broadcasters an end-to-end media management solution. The combined solution offers customers a content repository enabling content capture, production, and editing to occur in a seamless workflow, turning broadcast content into digital media assets while allowing simplified repurposing and distribution into new markets and channels for additional revenue opportunities.

"The combined EMC and Gorilla solution offers a powerful way for customers to access, archive, and repurpose media assets throughout the broadcast content lifecycle," said Balaji Yelamanchili, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EMC's Content Management and Archiving Group. "EMC and Gorilla are taking a holistic view of digital asset management to enable customers to automate production processes and distribution in ways that can help them take advantage of new market opportunities and increase revenues.

"As the digitization age charges on with full speed, broadcasters are increasingly looking for scalable infrastructures that can collaborate in real time and rapidly multi-purpose from multiple asset types providing more channels, programs, and new business services, and gaining profits without extra costs," said Dr. Spincer Koh, Group CEO, Gorilla "the joint solution from Gorilla and EMC addresses this market need by offering innovative solutions to manage the highly diverse content and production workflow that can make a significant impact upon broadcasters?business operations, turning content into true media assets."
